Cycling in Sardinia

Italy's wildest island

ITALY'S RUGGED ISLAND ESCAPE

There is no better place than Sardinia for cyclists craving genuine wilderness. Dramatic granite coastlines, near-empty interior roads and a landscape virtually untouched by mass tourism guarantee every rider a sense of complete and utter freedom. Our tours take in some of the island's most spectacular terrain, from the turquoise waters of the Costa Smeralda to the rugged, ancient mountains of the interior. Here you can ride roads with barely another car in sight, taste some of Italy's most distinctive regional cuisine, and experience an island that feels closer to a wild frontier than a typical Mediterranean holiday. Our aim is to help make your holiday special, by providing the best routes and the best experiences.

Sardinia's appeal lies in its contrasts — jagged granite peaks give way to hidden coves, ancient Nuragic stone towers dot rolling hills, and the interior region of Barbagia feels almost untouched by time. Away from the coastal resorts, Sardinia is one of the quietest, most authentic places to cycle in Italy, with roads that wind through cork oak forests, vineyards and villages that have changed little in generations.

Sardinia is Italy's second-largest island, and its cycling appeal goes far beyond its famous beaches. The Supramonte and Gennargentu mountains offer serious, sustained climbing in genuinely remote terrain, while the coastal roads around the Costa Smeralda and the south deliver some of the most scenic riding anywhere in the Mediterranean. Given its wild landscapes and quiet roads, Sardinia is a destination where visitors can enjoy a holiday full of adventure, discovery and the thrill of riding somewhere still refreshingly undiscovered by cycling tourism.

When you think of Sardinian food, expect something distinctly different from mainland Italy. Porceddu (slow-roasted suckling pig) is the island's signature dish, alongside pane carasau (a thin, crisp flatbread with Nuragic roots) and bottarga (cured mullet roe) from the coastal lagoons. Cannonau, one of the world's most studied longevity wines and a Sardinian staple, pairs perfectly with a day spent in the saddle. There are countless trattorias throughout the island, set in wonderful coastal and mountain locations, and we will bring you to the best.

CUISINE

Sardinian cuisine stands apart from mainland Italy, shaped by centuries of relative isolation. Signature dishes include porceddu (roast suckling pig), pane carasau flatbread, bottarga, and the powerful Cannonau red wine — one of the most distinctive food and wine traditions in the Mediterranean.
