This trip suits Beginner, Intermediate and Expert riders. The core Lake Garda routes are approachable for most fitness levels — the optional Stelvio day is the only day that demands solid climbing fitness, however is optional.
On the Lake Garda tour, we offer the support van on the loop of the lake day. Of course, in the Stelvio day, the van will carry your descending gear and jacket and will be at the top.
Yes, a single room supplement applies if you want a private room in a shared two bedroom apartment. There is also the option to have your own apartment.
The Stelvio day trip is a highlight for many guests, but it’s not compulsory — if you’d rather have a rest day or ride a shorter route around Lake Garda instead, just let your guide know.
The Passo dello Stelvio is around 24km from Bormio side, gaining roughly 1,530m at an average gradient of 7.4% with 48 hairpin bends. It’s a full-day effort — riders with previous mountain climbing experience will get the most out of it. Have a read on our guide at this link.
If you’re planning to ride the Stelvio day, some dedicated climbing preparation makes a real difference — sustained gradients like this reward riders who’ve built specific climbing endurance rather than just general fitness. If you’d like a structured plan built around this trip, visit our cycling coaching page and Matteo can help you put together a plan based on your current level and the time you have before you travel.
Beyond your usual riding kit, bring layers for the Stelvio day — temperatures at the summit can be significantly cooler than down at lake level, even in summer. Our full guide to packing for a European cycling holiday covers everything else you’ll need for the week.
